In additional comments emailed to Billboard, Wonder says, “I’ve always felt that singing and expressing love throughout our world can make a major difference — it always has and always will. Truthfully, I miss you; I miss performing. So I will be singing my songs, your songs; we will be celebrating songs and music as together we fix our nation’s broken heart.”
The press release announcing Wonder’s upcoming performances also notes that “as a special thank you, Wonder will be offering a designated amount of complimentary tickets to those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to fix our nation’s broken heart.”
Wonder, a 25-time Grammy winner, released “Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart” on Aug. 30. Prior to that, he spoke on the third night of the Democratic National Convention before performing one of his signature songs, “Higher Ground.”
Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart marks one of the first projects under the partnership between AEG Presents and Free Lunch. Billboard announced the companies’ strategic alliance in June under which Free Lunch founder/CEO Tim Hinshaw will secure and market R&B, hip-hop and gospel tours for AEG’s global touring division.
Tickets for Wonder’s 10-city slate of performances will become available Friday (Sep. 20) at 12 p.m. local time.
